Escape to the
Welsh Marches

Millie The Hut, Presteigne, Herefordshire

Down a leafy lane, where steam trains once ran, across a Victorian railway bridge that takes you from Wales to England, you'll find a meadow where sheep graze, and what else, but a traditional-style Shepherds Hut and Shack.  On sunny days, the meadow is bathed in light from dawn to dusk, and the gin-clear Hindwell Brook that bounds it flashes silver. Whatever the weather, after dark is a special time to be here, when the log burner in the hut, the firepit by the stream and the lamps and candles in the Shack cast a magical golden glow.

What Our Guests Say

We booked our stay at Millie the Hut looking for romance and seclusion and found both in spades. Paul and Glenys welcomed us, helping us ferry our stuff down a track to a stunning location, the river winding a mere 10m from the Hut. Despite it being a Hut we never felt cramped nor short on space. A large comfortable double bed makes for cosy nights, ample kitchen space if you want to cook indoors, plus indoor toilet-shower - it's amazing it has all been squeezed in! Attention to detail from the hosts is exceptional, they provide torches for to-ing and fro-ing at night, plus a generous welcome pack and every one of Paul's suggestions turned out to be fantastic - Daphne’s pizzeria in town is a must. The outdoor cooking area is wonderful at night, with an ample supply of wood for the firepit, and we sat out for hours.

This is a stunning bit of the world with a range of walks right on your doorstep. Maps are provided, walks recommended. We took a 10-mile hike and the constantly shifting scenery was breathtaking. Millie met our expectations and beyond.

Where to find us

///unwanted.passports.among - What3Words is a new more accurate version of a postcode. This will take you directly to where you need to park so we recommend using this in your Sat Nav or mobile device.

The postcode is LD8 2LD but this won’t necessarily get you to our property. Millie's Hut, at Wegnalls Mill, is just south of Presteigne, off the roundabout where the B4355 meets the B4362. Take the minor slip road off the roundabout signposted ‘The Wegnalls’. If you’re coming from Presteigne (Shobdon/Leomnster) direction this is the first exit, if you're coming from Kington direction, it’s the last exit. Go 50 metres down the lane and just past the first/only house on the right, turn immediately right onto the drive, signposted Wegnalls Mill, and continue to the end where you will see parking in front of the house.
